The Federal Government has approved the National Industrial Relations Policy (NIRP), a strategic framework designed to promote harmonious and effective industrial relations between employers and employees across the country.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this development to State House Correspondents at the council chambers on Thursday, July 31, following the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu.
Highlighting the significance of the policy, the minister said, “The policy will ensure a seamless workflow, promote social dialogue and tripartite cooperation among government, employers, and workers, and also align Nigeria’s industrial practices with global standards, including those set by the International Labour Organisation.”

Idris further stressed the importance of industrial relations as a continuous national priority, stating, “While underscoring the importance of maintaining industrial relations as a national priority that requires immediate and ongoing attention.”
He noted that the approval came in response to the persistent industrial disruptions over the years, which stemmed from the absence of a comprehensive national framework: “The approval of the NIRP policy stems from the need to control frequent industrial actions caused by the lack of a comprehensive national policy.”
