The Federal College of Education (FCE), Eha-Amufu, Enugu State, has appointed Dr Helen Ngozi Ebeh as its new substantive Provost following the approval of the institution’s 17th Governing Council.
Her appointment followed a rigorous and transparent selection process conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Colleges of Education Act, 2023, and other extant regulations governing the appointment of principal officers in federal colleges of education.
Dr Helen Ngozi Ebeh succeeds Dr Pauline Ikwuegbu, whose tenure as Provost recently came to an end after overseeing the affairs of the institution.
The appointment was approved by the college’s 17th Governing Council, the statutory body responsible for the overall governance of the institution.
The council oversees policy formulation, strategic planning, financial management, institutional development and the appointment of principal officers, while ensuring that the college operates in line with relevant laws and regulations.
Members of the college community described Dr Ebeh’s emergence as a reward for her years of dedicated service, academic excellence, administrative competence and integrity.

Established in 1981, the Federal College of Education, Eha-Amufu, is one of Nigeria’s leading teacher-training institutions. It was created to produce qualified teachers for the nation’s basic education sector and has continued to play a significant role in teacher education, research and community development.
Stakeholders expressed confidence that the new Provost would build on the achievements of her predecessor by strengthening teaching and learning, promoting research and innovation, improving staff welfare, expanding infrastructure and fostering stronger partnerships that would enhance the institution’s growth.
They also expressed optimism that her administration would usher in a new era of academic excellence, accountability, institutional harmony and sustainable development, further positioning the college as a centre of excellence in teacher education.
Dr Ebeh’s appointment is expected to mark a new chapter in the history of the college as it continues to pursue its mandate of producing highly qualified, innovative and professionally competent teachers for national development.
