The Forum for African Women Educationalist Nigeria (FAWEN) recently celebrated women teachers as they held the International Women’s Day at University of Lagos(UNILAG) Technology Hall.
The event which was also streamed online saw the gathering of women from different profession who came to brain storm on how technology could be use by the women teachers to upscale their ICT knowledge for the good of upcoming generation.
The organisation urged the women to upscale your skill, to create awareness among teachers on the importance of ICT and the need for teachers to embrace the use of ICT in schools.
The programme had four discussant who through more light on the Usage of ICT, and how teachers can overcome the phobia and other challenges they have on the Tech world.
Speaking during the event, Professor Virginia Onyeali an educationist highlighted the importance of the programme and spoke on the association with so much passion, explaining that it is for retired women in education, women of character, and the target audience are mainly women in education,
She said that the organisation is looking at the girl child, she remarked that the women seems to be very cold about technology, hence the need to promote women and girls advocacy in Nigeria.
She said that the association has been able to encourage women in education who are today called them FAWEN ambassadors, adding taht they tend to reach out to more women who can work in different fields as FAWEN Ambassadors.
The chairperson of the association Dr. Adebowale Ayobade who was the second discussant spoke on “Why tech phobic teachers”.
During the lectures she spoke on avenue opened to many teachers to be equipped with necessary skills for the benefits of the students including gaining ICT knowledge, but added that these teachers who are mainly in secondary schools develop tech phobic.
She explained that because Nigeria is a developing country and teachers are still acquiring tools, such as Android to enhance their skills, the Power Holding light is another issue that must be conquered, so, we see that the environment is not yet conducive for enhancing our ICT to maximise our prowl in it today. “it is when you are comfortable that your talking about technology”.
