Faluyi honored with honorary doctorate for impact on women, girls

In a moment of international recognition and pride for Nigeria, Mrs. Joan Faluyi, Founder of the Blossomflow Empowerment Foundation, has been conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by Highstone Global University, Texas, USA.

She was also presented with a Leadership and Social Impact Award during the Global Impact Convocation held in the United States.

The dual honors were bestowed in recognition of her outstanding humanitarian leadership, advocacy for women and girls, and unwavering commitment to ending period poverty in Africa.

Speaking at the award ceremony, the University President commended Dr. Faluyi for “demonstrating courageous leadership and creating life-changing impact through menstrual health advocacy, woman and girls empowerment, and community transformation across Africa.”

As Founder of the Blossomflow Empowerment Foundation, Dr. Faluyi has been at the forefront of ending period poverty, a public health and education crisis that forces millions of girls out of school due to lack of access to sanitary pads and menstrual hygiene resources.

Her foundation has impacted thousands across Nigeria and other African countries through: Free sanitary pad distribution programs,Menstrual hygiene education for girls and caregivers, Advocacy campaigns against menstrual stigma,Community outreach in rural and underserved areas.

“No girl should have to choose between her dignity and her education,” Faluyi said during her acceptance speech. “This Honorary Doctorate and Leadership Award are not just for me they represent every girl who has ever felt silenced, ashamed, or limited because of her period. This is a movement for equality, dignity, and opportunity.”

Dr. Faluyi’s mission goes beyond providing menstrual products she is building a global advocacy platform to influence policy, education, and community empowerment around menstrual health.

Her foundation also provides:Gender equality advocacy,Life skills training for girls,Women’s empowerment programs,Health and educational partnerships.

Dr. Faluyi continues to urge governments, international organizations, and global stakeholders to recognize menstrual health as a human right and an essential element of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 5: Gender Equality).

Through her tireless work, Dr. Faluyi has become a symbol of hope, empowerment, and purpose-driven leadership—inspiring a new generation of women and girls to believe in their power to create change.

Her recognition by Highstone Global University stands as a testament to her transformative impact and the growing global acknowledgment of menstrual equity as a vital step toward social justice and gender equality.
