A member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Abiodun James Faleke, on Monday donated a coaster bus to the Authentic Nigeria Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club as he was officially unveiled as the National Patron of the supporters’ body.
The presentation took place at the Nigeria Police College during Faleke’s routine empowerment programme for constituents, attracting a large gathering of sports enthusiasts, political figures and community leaders.
At the event, ANFASSC, led by its National President Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi, conferred on the lawmaker the title of Sports Philanthropist Political Leader of the Decade in recognition of his sustained contributions to sports development and youth engagement.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Faleke praised the supporters’ club for its dedication to promoting Nigerian sports and mobilising fans in support of national teams at international competitions. He reiterated the importance of sports as a tool for youth empowerment, national unity and economic growth.
In a major boost to the club’s operations, the lawmaker presented a coaster bus to facilitate the movement of members to sporting events across the country, a gesture widely described by observers as unprecedented in over two decades of supporters’ club activities in Nigeria.
The donation follows ANFASSC’s notable outing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the group gained attention for its vibrant support for Nigerian teams throughout the competition.
Ogunjimi, in his remarks, commended Faleke for setting a benchmark for public office holders through his commitment to sports and youth development, urging others to emulate such initiatives.
The ceremony was attended by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside other political leaders including Akeem Olalekan Dauda, Moyosore Adebanjo and Samiat Abolanle Bada.
The colourful ceremony featured cultural displays and enthusiastic celebrations from supporters, who described the donation as a significant boost to their activities and a motivation to continue championing Nigerian sports both locally and internationally.
