A retired naval officer, Commander Yilchini Jan Bida (retd), has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Plateau State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also pledged to tackle insecurity and infrastructural deficits in the state.

Bida, a forensic accountant, made this known while declaring his ambition at Kabwir Federal Ward in Kanke Local Government Area of the state, as part of preparations for the forthcoming APC primaries.

He explained that his aspiration was driven by a desire to introduce fresh ideas into governance, particularly in addressing insecurity, healthcare challenges, and the infrastructural decay the state has purportedly suffered for decades.

According to Bida, “Gone were the days when people simply come and say they want to govern. What is your manifesto? What is your agenda? This is the right time for the people of Plateau to ask questions. If you don’t ask questions, you will be governed without focus.”

He urged party faithful and residents of the state to make choices based on competence rather than ethnic or sectional considerations. He promised to govern with the fear of God, if elected.

The Chairman of APC in the state, Kabwir Federal Ward, Nenman Gopkat, said the party would continue to provide a level playing field for all aspirants.

He stressed that there was no faction within the ward and expressed optimism about peaceful primaries and victory for the party in the 2027 general elections.

Earlier, Bida visited the palace of the Ngolong Ngas in Pankshin to formally inform the monarch of his ambition and commiserate with him over the attack on his vehicles during the unrest in Mangu Local Government Area.

The Ngolong Ngas, Nde Jika Golit, urged the aspirant to pursue decent politics and seek God’s guidance in his political journey.
