Ex-lawmakers commend Tinubu for being courageous in taking decisions

As the nation commemorates Democracy Day, third republic parliamentarians have commended President Bola Tinubu for making bold and courageous efforts to turn Nigeria around.

Speaking on the one year in office of President Tinubu, the Third Republic House of Representatives Members’ Forum described the policies and decisions of government as those that were capable of taking Nigeria out of economic doldrums, and appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the government.

While congratulating the Tinubu-led administration on this year’s democracy day celebrations, the former lawmakers expressed delight at some of the bold initiatives of the government, and noted that only someone like President Tinubu could be bold enough to toe that line.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Forum, who represented Afikpo Federal Constituency, Ebonyi State, Gabriel EniOtu, noted that President Tinubu having served with them as the Chairman, Senate and House of representatives Taskforce Committee for determination of the account of the National Assembly then, and having also served as governor of Lagos State, was well grounded for the governance of the country. EniOtu noted that the institution of June 12 as democracy day in honour of late M. K. O. Abiola, the winner of the June 12, 1993 election, was laudable and commended former President Muhammadu Buhari in this regard.

He reminded the president of the injustice suffered by the lawmakers under the military and appealed to the President to look into their grievances, including payment of their outstanding salaries and allowances for the 11 months the national assembly lasted before it was truncated.

The former lawmakers are made of 91 senators and 593 members of the House of Representatives. Many of them have died without getting their benefits, leaving only 400 members of the third republic alive.
