Former Imo State Deputy Governor Prince Eze Madumere has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary for Imo East Senatorial District, securing the party’s ticket for the 2027 general election.

Madumere emerged victorious in the keenly contested primary held in Imo State, defeating fellow aspirants Hon. Greg Egu and High Chief Summers Nwokie. The election is scheduled for February 6, 2027.

Addressing jubilant stakeholders, supporters, and party members after the result, Madumere described his opponents as winners and called for unity within the party.

“This moment is not merely a personal victory or a privilege to be arrogantly boastful, but a victory for unity, loyalty, and experience for the collective aspiration of our people for purposeful representation and responsible leadership,” he said.

The U.S.-trained technocrat thanked PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu for his leadership, and commended state party chairman Austin Nwachukwu, elders, LGA chairmen, ward executives, women and youth leaders for sustaining the party in the state. He also expressed gratitude to delegates and the people of Owerri Zone for their trust.

Madumere, who previously served as Chief of Staff and Deputy Governor of Imo State, said his campaign would focus on responsive leadership, youth and women empowerment, job creation, infrastructure, education, agriculture, and support for small and medium-scale businesses.
