Former Enugu State Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Professor Victor Nnam, has tackled Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, former leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and recent criticism of the party’s leadership.
Ezeugwu, who represented Udenu Constituency from 2011 to 2023 and led the Assembly between 2015 and 2023, had in a letter to the PDP ward chairman in Udenu Local Government Area accused the party of abandoning its core values.
He alleged that merit was frequently sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity and deceit and described his exit as a rejection of a gift of a Trojan Horse.
“For me, trust is a fundamental aspect of any relationship, and without it, relationships can become challenging to maintain,” he stated.
Reacting, Prof. Nnam described Ezeugwu’s outburst as hypocritical, questioning why he only found his voice after he left office.

“He is just a sycophant, who shouldn’t be taken seriously. Why is he crying foul now? Why hasn’t he spoken up since 2022?” he queried.
He further accused Ezeugwu of betraying the very administration that made him, referring to former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
“Without Ugwuanyi, who is Ikechukwu Ezeugwu? The former governor made him and gave him a third-term ticket against the zoning principle in Udenu,” he added.
On allegations that Ezeugwu was deceived into executing constituency projects, Nnam said: “So, a third-term House member needed to be deceived before empowering his people? That’s laughable.”
He also criticised Ezeugwu’s performance, citing the construction of just two bus stops in Udenu in 12 years as underwhelming. He recalled Ezeugwuu’s sponsorship of a controversial pension bill for former governors and alleged that he benefited from high-value land allocations during his time in office. Nnam claimed Ezeugwu’s recent political stance was rooted in personal frustration after being denied a fourth term bid.
