Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has urged manager Michael Carrick to drop two players from his starting XI for the Red Devils’ Premier League clash with Ipswich Town.
Carrick’s side are set to host Ipswich at Old Trafford this weekend as they look to bounce back from their disappointing start to the new Premier League campaign.
Manchester United began the season on a poor note, suffering defeat to Hull City in their opening league fixture last weekend.
Speaking on The Overlap, Rooney called on Carrick to drop Luke Shaw and Andrey Santos from Manchester United’s starting XI against Ipswich Town, who secured promotion to the Premier League following the conclusion of last season.

“I think players need to take responsibility on the pitch. I would change Luke Shaw, and I would play Dorgu at left-back, be a bit more aggressive [against Ipswich Town],” Rooney said.
“I don’t think we can rely on him [Shaw] to play all the games, so when you are playing against a newly promoted team at home, I would play Dorgu at left-back,” he added.
When asked if he would make any changes to Manchester United’s midfield against Ipswich Town, Rooney added: “Mainoo, probably, yeah. I would bring Mainoo in for Santos.”
