Former Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Chairman Danladi Umar was on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of N100 million by a Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, over allegations that he conferred undue advantage on himself while in office.
Justice Peter Kekemeke, in a brief ruling, ordered Umar to provide one surety in like sum, who must possess a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
The judge held that the prosecution, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had failed to establish that Umar was likely to jump bail or interfere with witnesses and granted the application accordingly.
Umar, who was arraigned by the EFCC on a four-count charge, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
His counsel urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms, noting that he had previously been granted administrative bail by the commission and had never absconded, consistently honouring its invitations throughout the investigation.
The prosecution opposed the application, arguing that Umar posed a flight risk and could interfere with witnesses, some of whom served under him during his tenure as CCT chairman.
The court adjourned further hearing until 29 October 2026.
Umar is to remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
