EU Economic and Financial Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici on Tuesday, January 24, said Euro Zone finance ministers will not sign off on a review of Greece’s bailout at a meeting on Thursday.
Moscovici told newsmen in Dublin that the ministers hope to do so as soon as possible.
“We will see how we can move to a swift conclusion.
“Obviously cannot be achieved on Thursday.
“We hope it can be done as soon as possible,’’ he stressed.
The goal of Thursday’s meeting is to assess the progress achieved by Greek authorities in implementing economic reforms and to determine when representatives of the country’s creditors can return to Athens to resume talks.
Apart from Greece’s slow progress in implementing agreed-to reforms, another key problem is a rift between European officials on the one hand and the IMF on the other regarding the extent of austerity that should be imposed in Greece and the type and timing of debt relief that should be offered.
