Former Real Madrid manger Álvaro Arbeloa has been appointed head coach of Fulham football club, signing a three-year contract with the Premier League side as they prepare for the 2026/27 season.
The 43-year-old former Spain international replaces Marco Silva, who stepped down after guiding Fulham to an 11th-place finish last season before taking charge of Portuguese giants Benfica.
Confirming the appointment on Wednesday, Fulham said: “The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Álvaro Arbeloa as the new Head Coach of Fulham.”
Arbeloa arrives at Craven Cottage with an impressive playing pedigree, having won the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain and two UEFA Champions League titles during a successful spell at Real Madrid. He also boasts Premier League experience from his time at Liverpool.
Reacting to his appointment, Arbeloa said: “It is a real honour for me to be embarking on this new stage at Fulham FC, the oldest club in London.
“I feel a great sense of responsibility.”
His move to England follows a challenging stint as Real Madrid manager after replacing Xabi Alonso in January. During his time in charge, the Spanish club crashed out of the Copa del Rey in the round of 16 to second-tier Albacete, fell out of the La Liga title race following a series of disappointing results, and were eliminated by Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Despite that difficult spell, Fulham have backed the former defender to lead the club into a new era, banking on his elite playing experience and familiarity with English football to guide the Cottagers in the Premier League.
