President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over the circulation of a purported anti-North statement attributed to him on Facebook and other digital platforms.
Special Assistant to the President of the Senate on Media, Jackson Udom, disclosed the petition in a statement on Wednesday.
In the petition dated September 9, 2026, and signed by his Chief of Staff, Chinedu Akubueze, Esq., Akpabio called on the security agency to “urgently” investigate what he described as “the creation and coordinated dissemination on Facebook and other digital platforms of a manifestly false, inflammatory and dangerously divisive statement” attributed to him.
The statement allegedly attributed to Akpabio reads: “Northerners, You Will Be The Ones To Suffer The Most, If You Allow Tinubu To Lose The Election.”
But Akpabio, in the petition, categorically denied making the statement, saying, “No date, venue, speech, interview, video, audio recordings, official statement or credible news report has been produced to authenticate it.”
According to the petition, the graphic circulating online “carries no identifiable publisher’s mark or verifiable source.”
It further alleged that the material “appears to have been deliberately manufactured and presented as an authentic quotation for the purpose of deceiving the public, provoking regional resentment against the President of the Senate and portraying him as threatening the people of Northern Nigeria.”
The petition said preliminary checks of publicly accessible Facebook records had identified some of the earliest traceable persons who allegedly amplified the graphic.
It named Abdullai Musa, who allegedly posted the graphic in a Facebook group styled Sheik Muhammad bin Uthman Group 24, and Uzoma Chilaka, whose Facebook post allegedly reproduced the graphic alongside commentary credited to Boniface Uzoma Chilaka and Engineer Ibrahim Umar Ammar.

The petition also identified a verified Facebook account belonging to Ibrahim Umar Ammar, which it said subsequently reproduced the graphic and “substantially similar commentary.”
However, Akpabio cautioned against treating the named individuals as guilty before an investigation.
“The petition noted that these persons ‘should not be presumed guilty before investigation.’”
It described them as “material persons of interest” because of their alleged early and substantial roles in circulating the material.
“They may possess information capable of identifying the graphics designer, original uploader, sponsors, intermediaries and the network through which it was distributed,” the petition stated.
It therefore called for their “publication records, devices, communications and the provenance of the image” to be investigated in accordance with the law.
The petition said the alleged publication was particularly serious because of its potential to provoke regional resentment against the Senate President.
It urged the DSS to establish the origin of the graphic, identify those responsible for its creation and distribution, and determine whether an organised network was involved in its circulation.
