A phone snatcher has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in Enugu State, while another suspect accused of stealing alcoholic drinks worth thousands of naira from a supermarket has been remanded in a correctional centre.
The Enugu State Police Command disclosed this yesterday, saying the conviction and the separate arraignment demonstrated its commitment to tackling crime through effective investigations and prosecution.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said in a statement that the convicted phone snatcher, Ejike Nnam, 34, was arrested after allegedly snatching an iPhone XR valued at N240,000 from a female victim along Bisalla Road, Enugu, on October 8.
Nnam, who allegedly committed the offence with an accomplice still at large, was arraigned before the Enugu North Magistrate Court the following day. He pleaded guilty and was convicted.
The police said he was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for conspiracy and five years for robbery, with both sentences to run concurrently.
