From Okwe Obi, Abuja
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has been petitioned by the Concerned Citizens of Amankanu Autonomous Community, Oduma, over the lingering traditional leadership crisis rocking the community.
A representative of the community, Charles Mbah, in a letter, yesterday, accused the Local Government Chairman of Aninri Local Government, Ugochukwu Nwanjoku, of tinkering with the gazetted constitution to install his unqualified in-law, Ajosh Ukwuoma.
Mbah, argued that the attempt to bypass the people of Umuagudu, the Igwe elect Chief Innocent Ekpete and impose a candidate against the will of the overwhelming majority, was unconstitutional.
According to him, Nwanjoku carried out what he described as a ‘Kangaroo Meeting’ October 7, 2025, where he summoned the legitimate town union leaders, including the President General, Chidubem Ekpete, and the Secretary, Alor Samuel, both of whom including others declined to attend, sensing the illegality being perfected.
He claimed that the LG chairman proceeded with only his personal aides and cronies and forcefully declared Ajosh Ukwuoma as the “chosen king.
He said: “We, the Concerned Citizens of Amankanu Autonomous Community, Oduma, Aninri Local Government Area, Enugu State, write to implore your immediate and decisive intervention against the brazen, dictatorial actions of the Aninri Local Government Executive Chairman, Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku.

“His unilateral actions are not only an attack on our sacred traditional heritage but pose a severe and imminent threat to the peace and stability your administration has worked tirelessly to establish.”
As a way out, he demanded a full and transparent investigation into the actions of Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku, the LG Chairman of Aninri regarding the chieftaincy installation in Amankanu.
Also, he requested that the State Government should reject the “Kangaroo declaration” of October 7, 2025, and uphold the rotational seniority structure as contained in the Gazetted Amankanu Autonomous Community Constitution or allow the people to choose their own king.
In addition, he implored the governor to prevent Nwanjoku from further interfering in the traditional matters and allow people of Amankanu to freely chose their king in line with the gazetted constitution and stop him and his aids from harassment and undue persecution of community leaders especially Comrade Chidubem Ekpete and Alor Samuel, the PG and the Secretary of Town Union.
“That this matter is already in court and on the 9th of October 2025, just yesterday. Therefore, Prince Ugochukwu Nwanjoku cannot be acting on a matter that is already in the court which can be described as contempt of court.
“We rely on your established commitment to good governance, democracy, and the rule of law to save our soul,” he added.
