A large crowd of mourners, last weekend, gathered at Agugwu-Amagu village in Mpu community, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, for the burial of elder statesman, Chief Paul Onuoha Mbah, who died at the age of 108.

Late Mbah, described as the oldest man in the community, was celebrated for a long life marked by service, discipline, and strong Christian values.

Delivering a sermon at the funeral service, the Presbyter of Methodist Church, Very Rev. Chidiebere Nga of Methodist Church, Mpu circuit, reminded attendees of the inevitability of death and the certainty of divine judgment.

“There is reward for every deed, whether good or bad. The question you should ask yourself is: where will you spend your eternity? We have heard glowing testimonies about the life he lived, but a day will come when each of us will give account of our own stewardship.

“One day, every one of us gathered here will leave this world. And after leaving this world, we are going somewhere. People must understand that heaven and hell are real. That is the centre of the message,” he stated.

In a tribute, the deceased’s daughter, Air Commodore Nnenna Mba-Dumebi of the Nigerian Air Force, described her late father as her greatest pillar and inspiration, recounting the deep bond they shared.

“I always felt that deep connection and affection in the way he looked at me and spoke to me. Having lost my mother so early in life, my dad became both mother and father to me. He played that dual role faithfully till the very end,” she said.

She continued: “Dad, you were my unforgettable friend, so warm, so loving, so full of wisdom, understanding and knowledge, yet a thorough disciplinarian. You gave me sound upbringing, education, family values, strength of character and Christian orientation that shaped who I am today.”

Also speaking, one of the daughters of the deceased, Mary Udeh, described her father as a loving and caring parent whose wisdom and affection would be greatly missed.

“My father was good in every area of his life. Even though I am born again, he still taught me how to live rightly. He took care of his children and guided us with wisdom. I will miss him deeply,” she said.

A mourner, Bright Ekweremadu, described the late Mbah as a man of courage and integrity who played a key role in the development of the community.

“He was my leader, my role model, a pillar and a beacon of hope. He was courageous, a man of integrity who was never afraid to speak the truth even if he stood alone. He did everything he could to uplift this community to what it is today. We have lost an iroko tree, a shining star,” he said.
