Former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Ugo Agballa, and the party’s caretaker chairman in the state, Ben Nwoye, on Tuesday used the ongoing electronic membership revalidation exercise in Udi/Agbudu Ward, Udi Local Government Area, to preach unity and renewed commitment among party members.

Speaking after revalidating his membership at the Udi/Agbudu Ward centre, Agballa said the exercise symbolised a new beginning for the party, stressing that the APC had now reunited after a long period of internal divisions.

“Today I did my revalidation. This is my ward, the Udi/Agbudu Ward in Udi Local Government Area. Today I did my card revalidation. What is going on in the APC has never been done in any political party. This is the only party whose leadership is transparent. We are registering online, real time. What the party leadership is doing is most encouraging. It is innovative.”

Agballa urged members to embrace the process as a pathway to rebuilding the party’s strength and credibility ahead of future congresses and elections.

“I wish to call on party members to mobilise for this registration because the party’s strength is based on its leadership and membership. The membership is the most important thing, and everybody should do everything possible to register to be able to take part in the coming congress. If we know how many members we have, it will help the party with strategies to win elections,” he added.

He said the renewed enthusiasm across wards showed that “the gladiators have converged and we have one APC now,” adding that unity would enable the party to back its claim of being Africa’s largest political party “with figures.”

In his remarks, Nwoye described the large turnout in Udi as proof that the party had overcome internal rancour and was moving forward as one family.

“It has been massive and way beyond expectation. I am excited about what is going on. When we say APC is united, this is what I mean. We are saying that you have to be APC in the morning, APC at night.”

Nwoye disclosed that Udi was leading registration figures among the 17 local government areas, while Enugu State had emerged first among the five South-East states, describing the development as the reward of unity.

He dismissed claims of coercion and propaganda by the opposition, insisting that participation was voluntary and driven by renewed confidence in the party.
