The governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has called on corps members posted to the state to embrace the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development programmes of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Mbah made this call during the swearing in ceremony of the 2024 Batch A, stream 1 set of corps members deployed to the state, at NYSC orientation camp in Awgu Local Government Area of the state.
Mbah who was represented by the Secretary to the state Government (SSG) Prof. Chidiebere Onyia assured the state government’s commitment to supporting the NYSC scheme to achieve its mandate in the state.
He urged them to key into Enugu State Government’s transformative agenda of continuity, collaboration, transparency, accessibility and accountability.
He advised corps members to build bridges across their cultural and religious backgrounds and live peacefully with their fellow compatriots while working with one purpose to uplift the present dwindling economy.
He promised that the state government would as a matter of urgency meet with the authority in charge of power to fix and bring back light to the camp.
“I enjoin you to embrace the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme which has been recently modified to meet up with the ever changing and challenging business environment of the twenty first century.
“It is encouraging to know that our youths are rediscovering their potentials in different fields of endeavour, earning adequate incomes using legitimate means and modern techniques and equipments for business enterprise.
“While it is my hope that the programme will be sustained, I urge you all to leverage on the opportunity offered by the training for your own benefit and the good of the nation.
“The Government and people of Enugu State are committed to supporting the NYSC and will continue to contribute to the sustenance of the gains of the Scheme and also provide for the welfare and security of Corps members in the State,” he said.
Earlier, that State Coordinator, NYSC, Christiana Salmwang, disclosed that 1,503 corps members of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream one set were deployed to Enugu State for the one-year mandatory national service.
Salmwang who said that the corps members comprised of 764 males and 739 females, disclosed that they would undergo vocational and entrepreneurship training through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) which was recently revamped to align with the prevailing socio- economic realities.
