Aisha Yesufu, a rights activist, has criticised the Senate’s Electoral Act amendment.

Yesufu said in a statement released on her verified X handle on Tuesday that the Senate had insulted Nigeria.

The co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls Movement was responding to the Senate’s rejection of e-transmission of election results, which has sparked controversy in several parts of Nigeria.

The public outrage had led to “Occupy the National Assembly” protest by Nigerian youths and prominent politicians like Peter Obi and former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.

The Senate on Tuesday amended Section 60 of the Electoral Act to allow presiding officers at polling units to electronically and manually transmit election results to the Independent National Electoral Commission Results Viewing Portal, INEC-IREV.

Reacting, Yesufu said, “The Nigerian Senate has insulted the sensibilities of Nigerians!

“They have shown they are not deserving of the trust Nigerians have given them to represent the people.”
