Supporters of incarcerated leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), otherwise known as Shi’ite, yesterday, shut down parts of Abuja city centre in protest.

The protesters demanded unconditional release of their spiritual leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-zakzaky and his wife.

El-zakzaky and his wife have been in custody of the Department of State Security (DSS) since 2015, against several court orders that have granted him bail.

Since then, his supporters have continued to protest peacefully and violently, to draw global attention to the perceived injustice being done to their spiritual leader.

During yesterday’s protest,  the aggrieved IMN members, mostly women and youths, marched through unity fountain in Maitama to Federal Secretariat, to National Mosque, up to Wuse 2, in Abuja.

They caused pandemonium in some parts of Abuja, as motorists and commuters took precautions to avoid being victims of possible violent reactions of the aggrieved IMN members.

The IMN supporters used placards, brigade band and other loud sound systems to pass their message of freedom to concerned persons.

They  also used unprintable names to describe President Muhammadu Buhari and some persons in his government, whom they accused of being  responsible for the detention of their spiritual leader.
