Operatives of Amotekun Corps in Ekiti State have arrested five suspects for alleged vandalism and housebreaking in some parts of the state.
In their separate arrests by the operatives of the Corps, an 80- year- old suspect, Michael Fatokun, was nabbed alongside one Oladosu Eniola (52) for allegedly vandalising equipment belonging to the Ekiti State Water Corporation in Okemesi-Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area of the State.
The other three suspects who identified themselves as Rufai Isiaka (26), Buhari Ibrahim (30) and Muniru Yahaya (30), were arrested for allegedly breaking into a residential house located at Tinuola area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
Parading the suspects at the Corps headquarters along Old Iyin Road, Ado Ekiti, the Corps Commander, Brig. Gen. Joe Komolafe (Rtd), said three of the suspects were arrested after the Corps received a distress call that some persons unlawfully broke into a residential house located at Tinuola area of Ado-Ekiti and vandalised the pumping machine installed in the house,
the other two were arrested for breaking into Water Corporation premises in Okemesi- Ekiti and vandalised the Corporation’s equipment.
Komolafe said, “Five suspects were arrested this morning. Three of them for house breaking attempt and two for breaking into Water Corporation premises in Okemesi.
“These two suspects stole things like armoured cable, and vandalised other items belonging to the Corporation.
“For the other three suspects, we received a distress call from Tinuola Estate this morning, we went there and were able to arrest them,” he said.
Speaking on the various achievements of the Corps, Komolafe said the Corps has recorded so many achievements and disclosed that the Command assisted in the rescue of the State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barr. Paul Omotoso, who was abducted recently, and the arrest of several other criminals in the State.
The Amotekun Chief who acknowledged the various interventions of the current administration in the state in the affairs of the Corps, appreciated Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the provision of motorcycles for the Corps through the Local Council Development Areas ( LCDAs ) and the recent increase in the monthly salaries of the Corps operatives by the Governor.
The Commander who reiterated that the Corps will continue to work with other sister agencies in the state to protect lives and property of the people, urged residents to be vigilant and give timely information on any suspicious activity or movement in their areas.
