The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has ordered heightened security deployment across Nigeria ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, directing Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders to strengthen operations to ensure a peaceful and safe festive period.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the police chief congratulated Muslim faithful and reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property during the celebrations.

“The Inspector-General joins all Nigerians in celebrating this auspicious occasion and prays for peace, unity, and prosperity for our great nation,” the statement said.

The IGP directed all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory to intensify proactive policing, including strategic deployment of tactical units, intelligence operatives, and conventional officers to key locations nationwide.

According to the police, areas of focus include Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, markets, and other public spaces expected to experience high human traffic during the festivities.

The statement added that the Force would also step up visibility policing, coordinated patrols, surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties to deter criminal activities and ensure rapid response to security threats.

The police leadership urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely and credible information, stressing that community participation remains critical to maintaining safety.

“Every Nigerian has a role to play in keeping our communities safe during this festive season. A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” the IGP was quoted as saying.

He also encouraged the public to report suspicious persons, unattended items, or unusual movements around public gatherings, noting that all information provided would be treated confidentially.

The Force further released emergency contact numbers for citizens to reach security agencies quickly in case of distress during the celebrations.
