To ensure a hitch-free Eld-el-Fitr celebration which marks the end of the Muslim Ramadan fast this year, the Kaduna State Viggilqnce Service (KADVS) on Monday said it has dispatched 15,000 of its members across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Commander of the Service, Brig-Gen Umar Muhammed Ibrahim (retd) said, 5,000 men were dispatched from the four local governments that constituted Kaduna town (Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Igabi, and Chiku) while 10,000 others were to man the remaining 19 local councils.
Briefing newsmen on the readiness of the service for the festive period at the Command’s headquarters in Kaduna, the retired senior military man said, his men would make the state uncomfortable for criminal elements, especially at the community level.
He said we want to inform the good people of the state of our readiness to ensure hitch-free Salah celebration and to ensure that, in the Kaduna metropolis alone, we have over 5,000 members while we also mobilise 10,000 members from other local councils.
“Again, We have always been collaborating with the Police, the military, and other security agencies operating in the state, and that collaboration has been very significant to the peaceful Kaduna we have now. So, whenever there is a need for synergy, we do that and we shall continue to do that.
“So, our people at the community level are expected to support the security agencies by way of providing us with timely and credible information that will help us to be a step ahead of those who may want to create social unrest in the state.
“In other words, timely information will help the security agencies to nip crime in the bud before it occurs”, he said.
On what the state government is doing to improve the vigilance service he said, “Security is a part of the SUSTAIN Agenda of the current administration and as such, the government is procuring means of conveyance including vehicles and motorcycles part of which will be giving to KADVS at the appropriate time.
“Mr Governor has made a promise to us that we are going to have 100 motorcycles in addition to vehicles for our members so that where vehicles cannot reach because of the terrain, we will use motorcycles to get there”.
He however cautioned his men to be civil, humane, and follow the rule of law in the discharge of their responsibility.
” I always tell them that it is better for a member of the public to hit them and when that happens, don’t retaliate because the person will definitely pay for such an unpatriotic act against our men,” he added.
