The federal government has approved Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration, signalling the end of Ramadan.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.
Congratulating Muslim faithful, the minister urged them to uphold the values of sacrifice, discipline and compassion cultivated during the fasting period.

He also called on Nigerians to use the festive season to pray for national peace, unity and stability.
Tunji-Ojo further encouraged citizens to celebrate in moderation and extend kindness to the less privileged in society.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
Eid-el-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is widely observed by Muslims across Nigeria with prayers, charity and family gatherings.
