As Muslims across Nigeria join the global Islamic community to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin and Solomon Adeola, have challenged Nigerians to reflect on the significance of Eid-el-Kabir, which is anchored on selfless love and compassion.
They also called for prayers, unity and sustained peace in the country.
In a message issued in Abuja yesterday and personally signed by him, Senator Akume stressed the need for Nigerians to imbibe the essence of the festival, which includes sacrifice, submission to the will of God, and showing compassion and generosity towards others.
The SGF urged the citizens to pray for the nation and the people-oriented administration of President Bola Tinubu as he continues to deliver on his Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also enjoined Nigerians to pray for the continuous peace and stability of the country and work together towards a united, peaceful and progressive nation.
Barau emphasised the need for national cohesion and urged Nigerians to use the season to reflect on the values of sacrifice, obedience and charity as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
“This season reminds us to obey Allah’s instructions, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim. True Muslims should adhere to peace, tolerance, justice and charity,” he said in a statement by his media adviser, Ismail Mudashir yesterday.
Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, called on Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu’s administration, noting that the President has shown genuine leadership in addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
He further pledged that the National Assembly would continue to provide legislative support to consolidate the gains recorded under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Similarly, Adeola, who chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriations, urged Muslims and all Nigerians to pray for peace and national progress, especially in light of the Tinubu administration’s ongoing reforms.
“As the administration of President Tinubu recently marked its two years in office with acclaimed positive indicators of escaping total collapse of the economy and achievements in socio-economic gains, the nation needs security, peace, understanding and sacrifices to consolidate observable gains.”
He stressed the importance of embracing Islamic teachings of sacrifice, brotherliness and peaceful coexistence, noting that these values are essential for national development.
While extending Eid greetings to his constituents, Adeola reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation and the continued delivery of democratic dividends.
“I will continue the effective representation that I am known for, through the Renewed Hope Agenda and my facilitated programmes in the area of education, provision of social amenities like roads, boreholes and transformers,” he said.
