From Tony Osauzo, Benin
An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant and member of the National Assembly, representing Ovia Federal Constituency, Dennis Idahosa, yesterday, challenged another aspirant, Blessing Agbomhere, to make public a document indicting him of fraud or be ready for legal action for his false allegations.
Agbomhere had in statement warned the leadership of the APC not to impose Idahosa on the party over his alleged criminal record, saying that it would lead to implosion in the party. He alleged in the statement that Idahosa was indicted in 2015 for fraud by the administration of Adams Oshiomhole and sacked as commissioner of Investment, Public /Private Partnership among other allegations.
Reacting to the allegations, a member of Idahosa’s campaign team, Charity Amayaenvbo, threatened to institute legal action against Agbomhere.
“Our principal who is a firm believer in the rule of law has briefed his lawyer in the person of Wole Olanipekun to immediately commence legal processes against the said Agbomhere and other persons involved in this false allegation as courts processes would commence in a couple of days at a court of competent jurisdiction. Hon Idahosa wishes to put on record that he was never sacked as Commissioner as alleged by Agbomhere from the government of Oshiomhole as he voluntarily resigned as Commissioner for Investment, public private partnership.
“Throughout the four months he served as Commissioner, there was at no time any petitions by any individual or organisations against him or a panel was set up to investigate him, let alone being indicted. We ask Agbomhere and his co-travelers to name the names of members of the administrative panel and when the report was submitted to the state government. We want to assure our teaming supporters to remain focused on the task of securing our party tickets and ultimately win the Edo governorship election,” Amayaenvbo said.
Idahosa was among the six aspirants cleared by the Prof. Julius Ihonvbere screening committee to participate in the Edo State APC governorship primary, a development that is causing ripples among aspirants that were dropped. Notwithstanding, a statement from the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has directed all aspirants interested in vying for the governorship seat to go ahead to purchase nomination forms.
