Elders and leaders of the Igbobi Community in the Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State have called for peace and unity, urging residents to contribute meaningfully to the area’s economic development.
In a statement released to journalists in Benin City, Chief Peter Ugiagbe, the Odionwere (community leader) of Igbobi, stressed that meaningful development cannot occur amidst internal conflict, especially considering the country’s current challenges with food shortages due to insecurity in the north-east.
Chief Ugiagbe emphasised the long-standing peace enjoyed by the Igbobi people and urged them to protect it. He called on the public to disregard the actions of individuals attempting to tarnish the community’s image and cautioned troublemakers to embrace peace.
Specifically, he appealed to a Pastor Egharevba, identified as being from Obazuwa village and not Igbobi, to focus on his own community’s affairs and allow Igbobi residents to continue their lives peacefully.
The Odionwere also commended the Edo State Police Command for their thorough investigation, which cleared four Igbobi sons of wrongdoing. He expressed gratitude for their efforts in upholding justice within the community.
