Nigerian badminton coaches will get a boost in technical expertise next week as the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) hosts the IOC/BFN Badminton Technical Coaching Course Level 2 in Abuja from September 4 to 12, 2026.
The nine-day programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of badminton coaches and promote the sustainable development of the sport in Nigeria, providing participants with advanced technical knowledge, practical coaching skills, and modern methodologies for athlete development.
The course will bring together selected badminton coaches and technical personnel from across the country for intensive theoretical and practical sessions covering modern coaching techniques, technical and tactical development, athlete preparation, training planning, talent identification, competition management, and international badminton standards.

NOC President, Engr. Habu Gumel, is expected to formally open the event, while the committee’s secretary, Abba Ado Gumel, will coordinate proceedings.
The NOC said the initiative reflects its continued commitment, in collaboration with relevant badminton authorities, to sports development through education, capacity building, and ongoing professional development for coaches and technical officials. Organisers say the course is expected to raise the standard of badminton coaching nationwide and support the identification of young talent capable of competing at national and international level.
The Committee has called on stakeholders in the sports sector to support the initiative as part of a collective effort to advance badminton development and sporting excellence in Nigeria.
