The Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of Pan-Atlantic University, in partnership with the Equinix Foundation, has launched SparkLab, a one-year incubation programme designed to equip early-stage Nigerian technopreneurs and startups with the skills, mentorship, and networks required to scale their businesses.

Officially unveiled at the EDC headquarters in Lagos, SparkLab bridges the gap between idea generation and market success for innovation-driven entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Nneka Okekearu, Director of the EDC, described SparkLab as a transformational platform for nurturing Nigeria’s next generation of business leaders.

“SparkLab is more than an incubation programme; it is a launchpad for ambitious entrepreneurs with the potential to create meaningful impact through technology. Participants will be supported throughout the journey—from stress-testing their ideas to developing market-ready solutions and engaging with potential investors,” Okekearu said.

He noted that this initiative marks EDC’s first incubation partnership focused exclusively on early-stage entrepreneurs, praising the Equinix Foundation’s shared conviction that technology should catalyze economic empowerment.

Driving Digital Inclusion

The Equinix Foundation’s support for SparkLab aligns with its global mission to advance digital inclusion and expand access to economic opportunities.

Mr. Wole Abu, Managing Director of Equinix West Africa, emphasised the importance of investing in local digital innovation.

“Nigeria’s young entrepreneurs possess exceptional creativity and ambition. What they often need are the right tools, mentorship, infrastructure, and networks to bring their ideas to life. SparkLab provides exactly that,” Abu said.

Abu highlighted that by combining EDC’s proven track record in enterprise development with Equinix’s global infrastructure and industry networks, the partnership will create stronger pathways for economic growth.

“SMEs remain the backbone of every thriving economy. In the digital age, technology provides unprecedented access to global markets. SparkLab is designed to ensure that Nigeria’s next generation of entrepreneurs can compete effectively on a global stage,” he added.

Building Resilient Ventures

Reflecting on the long-term impact of the programme, Dr. Okekearu pointed out that many promising ideas fail because founders often approach business challenges from a single perspective.

Through SparkLab, EDC and the Equinix Foundation aim to foster a new wave of enterprises capable of driving job creation and shaping Nigeria’s digital future.
