At a historic ceremony at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, President Bola Tinubu yesterday assured Nigerians that the economic reforms that had tested their endurance over the past 28 months were now delivering tangible results, setting the nation on a path to renewed growth and widespread prosperity.Addressing the crowd during the final installation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan, the President praised Nigerians for their resilience amid the reforms, describing their sacrifices as the “pain of a painful surgery that is giving way to growth and prosperity awaiting us ahead.

“Thank you for your perseverance, thank you for your endurance, thank you for your understanding,” President Tinubu said, emphasising that “there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel” for the Nigerian economy.

The President also used the opportunity to celebrate the newly crowned Olubadan, a one-time senator and Governor of Oyo State, highlighting their shared political history. He commended Oba Ladoja’s exceptional resilience and steadfastness, recalling the challenges they overcame together, including a notable impeachment struggle.

“The history of your perseverance, your resilience, your reliability is impeccable,” President Tinubu remarked, lauding the monarch’s unwavering commitment.

Praying for the new king’s long life and impactful reign, the President expressed hope that the monarch would continue to be a symbol of strength and inspiration to the people of Ibadan and Nigeria at large.

“I wish you joyous years on the throne marked by memorable and impactful achievements,” he said.

President Tinubu also extended heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ibadan for their unyielding support during his 2023 presidential campaign and acknowledged distinguished former governors and political figures present at the event, including Donald Duke, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Ibrahim Shekarau, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Ibukunle Amosun.

The significance of the Olubadan installation resonated nationally, underscored by the presence of top dignitaries including the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, who presented the staff and certificate of office to Oba Ladoja.

“This is a momentous occasion,” Governor Makinde stated, “and by the power vested in me, I hereby confirm Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.”

Oba Ladoja, 81, a seasoned businessman and political leader, ascended the throne following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

The Olubadan throne, deeply significant culturally and politically, symbolises the heritage and unity of the Yoruba people and stands as a pillar of Ibadan’s identity, one of West Africa’s largest cities.
