Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has urged the newly elected local government chairman in the state not to allow opposition elements to ‘mess up’ in their areas.
He ordered them to deal with such elements mercilessly if they try to ‘mess up’ in their local governments.
Addressing the new council chairmen and mammoth crowd during their swearing-in ceremony in Abakaliki, the state capital, the governor threatened to remove any chairman that loses his or her area to the opposition in next year’s general election. He declared that in the next two weeks, “we will start showing actions’.
Nwifuru further declared that no single position will be relinquished to the opposition by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.
“It is a challenge to those who we have elected to govern our local government. It is left for them to deliver the candidates of our party in the forthcoming general election.
“Campaign has been declared open for the National Assembly. So, as you are going back to your local governments, what you should be talking about is our party, APC, to win all the elections.
“We cannot leave any position to any other political party; we will win 100% of the general election. Go and tell the opposition this.

“Opposition said we are threatening them. We have not started our campaign and they are complaining, we will threaten you when time comes. “So, nobody is threatening you, we are stating the facts, and we are willing to follow our words with actions. We are not mincing words about delivering our party. We are politicians. We must speak for our party, and we must deliver our party.
“I pity those who are here with us as informants and they are discussing us. We are not speaking in secret, we are above that. We are the only party functioning here, and we are not mincing words about it.
“It is not a hidden thing that we are politicians. It is not also a hidden thing that we are contesting elections. God has sanctioned it and there is nothing anybody can say that can make us not say what we are supposed to say at any point in time. So, we are winning.
“Those who think that we are threatening them, the time for threatening will come, and we will threaten you, so that you do your worst.
“As a local government chairman, if you like, go and sleep, so that another person will take over your house. You will not stop us from winning. But when we win, we will remove you. It is as simple as that.
“So, let the front page of newspapers carry it on Wednesday, that we will remove a council chairman that fails to win his local government. We will use your councillor to replace you.
“If anybody comes to your local government and messes up, deal with that person mercilessly. As a politician, tell the person openly: ‘it is either you are with me or you are against me’. And by next two weeks, we will start showing actions.
“So, those who said they are prepared, we are better prepared than them. And we are willing to do the job”, he stated.
