Six persons in Ebonyi State who were among the over 200 ex-warlords granted amnesty by the state governor, Francis Nwifuru were currently being prosecuted for causing further crime and unrest.

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Dr Ben Odo disclosed this to journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Nwifuru had granted amnesty to over 150 detainees at the Correctional Service Centre, Abakaliki, accused in the war between the people of Effium and Ezza-Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state which has been resolved by the governor, as well as 51 others in the war between the people of Ekoli in Edda Local Government Area of the state and Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State, which claimed many lives with property worth billions of naira destroyed.

But some of the ex-warlords were said to have caused violence in their communities after the amnesty.

Odo said six of them have been arrested and were currently being prosecuted.

“Amnesty is not immunity. If you are granted amnesty and you commit further crime, you will be arrested. Those of them that were granted amnesty and they went to commit further crime and unrest, we have arrested them and we are charging them.

“This is what the state government is currently doing.

“We will arrest you, arraign you, try you, convict you and sentence you. We are currently prosecuting six persons granted amnesty and they went further to cause unrest. We are currently prosecuting six of them”, he said.
