The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, has condemned in strong terms the recurrent delay in the distribution of government farm inputs to farmers.
The Council, in a communique issued at the end of the Council’s Congress held last Thursday, at the Dr. Sam Egwu Press Centre, Abakaliki, also urged the government to ensure timely distribution when such inputs will be most useful to farmers.
The Congress, presided over by the Council Chairman, Comrade Nwafor Samson. charged the government at all levels with putting mechanisms in place to ensure that only genuine farmers benefit, noting that it would encourage more people to venture into agriculture and boost food production in the state.
It called on political actors in the state to shun campaigns of calumny and focus on issue-based politics ahead of the 2027 general elections. Congress noted the ongoing political activities and urged all political actors to “play by the rules” and avoid actions capable of heating up the polity.
The union also commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for his interventions in the education sector, particularly the sponsorship of hundreds of Ebonyi indigenes on local and overseas scholarships up to doctoral level.
“Congress urged him to remain focused in achieving his administration’s lofty dreams aimed at improving the welfare of Ebonyi people,” the communique stated.
