The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), under the leadership of Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has received praise for its efforts to implement positive changes across federal airports.

During a meeting convened by FAAN this week, Allen Onyema, Vice President of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, expressed his commendation and offered a vote of confidence in the management.

The gathering, held at the new terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, brought together executives from 20 airlines to discuss critical issues impacting the aviation industry.

The meeting was organised at the instance of Mrs Kuku to enlighten AON on what plans the Authority has for airport development and to also listen to feedback from the operators in order to enable FAAN to provide better services that will cascade to passengers.

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, opened the recent meeting with a comprehensive presentation on her vision for the future of Nigeria’s airports. Highlighting key priority areas—safety, security, culture transformation, digital innovation, service excellence, and revenue growth—Mrs. Kuku emphasised that these initiatives were slated for immediate action. Her ambition is to position FAAN as one of the leading airport management companies in sub-Saharan Africa within the next decade. Central to achieving this goal, she noted, would be close collaboration with the AON.

In his response, Onyema expressed the association’s satisfaction with FAAN’s renewed approach to airport management. He praised both Mrs. Kuku and Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, for their commitment to elevating the country’s aviation infrastructure, commending their sense of responsibility and dedication to progress.

“When government does what is wrong, you can say it, but what is happening in FAAN is commendable,” the Air Peace CEO said. “The desire to do good is very, very transparent. You can see it. So, why won’t we have confidence in the system? This is no more fighting time; this is time for collaboration,” he said.

Directors of the Authority present included the Director of Engineering Services, Abiola Muniru Adejare; Director of Airport Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood; Director of Special Duties, Mr. Henry Agbebire; and Director of Aviation Security Services, ACP Afegbai Igbafe (Rtd). They all took turns to enlighten all attendees as to what efforts are being made to improve service quality at the airport.

The Director Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, was in attendance.

Some of the resolutions reached include the need for more frequent meetings, quicker response to AON correspondences, further improvements on airport infrastructure and the digitalisation of revenue collection amongst others. The Authority was asked to keep up with the good work in the area of providing quality service,  which the airline operators and passengers can attest to.
