The Chairman, House of Representatives, Committee on Petroleum Upstream, Alhassan Doguwa, has urged communities in the North to get fully involved in the efforts to rescue and boost education in the region.
Doguwa spoke at a book launch organised by the Gaya/Bagauda Old Boys Association in Kano, yesterday.
He said the government’s policies and efforts in education in the region would benefit a lot from the support and solidarity from the wealthy members of the society, adding that community’s participation would go a long way to reduce the number of out-of-school children in the region.
Doguwa, a former leader of the House of Representatives, urged the members of the Gaya/Barewa Old Boys to continue to invest in the educational development of the present and future generations of students by filling up the existing gap in the region’s education system.
He affirmed that the Federal Government was up and doing to strengthen the education sector in the country, citing the Federal Government’s loan scheme and the special scholarship programme as some of the positive interventions.
He commended members of the old boys for their dedication and commitment towards educational development.
“This has added to my belief that we still have people who truly care about the unfortunate educational standards of our people in the North. I now know that together we shall rescue it and change the narrative.”
