The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), National Obstetrics Fistula Centre (NOFIC), Abakaliki, Ebonyi State chapter, has urged its members to resume the November 2025 suspended industrial action on Monday, January 12.
At their congress in the hospital at the weekend, the doctors accused the Federal Government of not responding to their demands for improved condition of service.
Dr. Charles Elom, the President of NARD in the NOFIC, Abakaliki, who presided over the congress, said the strike would be total, comprehensive and indefinite until the Federal Government resumes bargaining agreement with the doctors.
He lamented the high cost of living while salaries of doctors remained the same, noting that other sectors had adjusted their own salaries.
The resident doctors in the department of obstetrics and gynecology said: “The congress we just had is all about the upcoming industrial action of the National Association of Resident Doctors. The strike is coming up on the 12th of this month.
“We are resuming suspended strike. We were on strike sometime in November and that strike was suspended on the 28th of that November last year.

“Four weeks gap was given to the federal government to respond to our demands, to the content of memorandum of understanding we signed with the federal government.
“Now, that four weeks period has expired and up till now, the federal government has not responded to anything. So, we resolved that we are resuming the strike at 12: am of 12th of this month.
“Part of our grievances is the unjust termination of the appointment of five of our members in federal teaching hospital Lokoja and it was recommended by the committee set up by the federal ministry of health on the matter that those people should be recalled and up till now, they have not been recalled.
“NARD is insisting that recommendation of that committee must be honoured.Other things are unpaid promotion of arrears of our members and the unpaid promotion of arrears spans from as far back as 2022 up till now.
“Other things are the failed payment of the 25% and 35% CONMESS arrears. Otter issues are also in the re-categorization of the membership certificates of our members by the medical and dental council of Nigeria .
“We are also insisting that bargaining agreement should be resumed because this is what will determine what is being paid to doctors. Cost of living has been going up and up till now, doctors salaries have not been adjusted while other sectors have done something in their salaries”.
