Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has called on members of the opposition parties not to breach the peace and security ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
The governor made the call on over the weekend at the dedication of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Ofoni in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state, which was built by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
The governor, who was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Gloria Diri, noted that his administration was anchored on peace and development without which meaningful prosperity would not be possible.
He enjoined people of the state to sustain the prevailing peace and stability before, during and after the poll, maintaining that peace was a precondition for the development and growth of any society.
In his remarks, the Catholic Bishop of Bomadi Diocese, Bishop Hyacinth Egbebo thanked Governor Diri for his efforts in developing Bayelsa, stating that “he is the one God has brought to bless Bayelsa and Ijaw nation at the moment.”
Bishop Egbebo urged all well meaning Bayelsans to support the second term bid of the governor for more development.
“I know you will come back for a second term because you are favoured by God. We don’t want to go back anymore, forward is what we want, and you have shown us the sign that we should go forward.
‘’Anybody who votes for backwardness, it is the person that will go backward. For now, you are the one we know that God has brought to bless us. I urge all of us to support the governor for more peace and development, because he is such a peaceful man, and Bayelsa and the Ijaw nation needs you to continue for another four years,” Bishop Egbebo stated.
