Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has commended the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) over its human capital development initiatives in the Niger Delta region.

Diri spoke at a Youth Summit with the theme: ‘Empowering the Future: Unlocking the Opportunities in the Niger Delta Oil and Gas Sector,’ organised by the board to explore opportunities in the oil and gas sector for Niger Delta youths as part of the 13th Practical Nigerian Content Forum held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Diri, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Alfred Kemepado, commended NCDMB for being proactive in engaging youth by integrating human capacity development into each project undertaken by the oil and gas industry.

He encouraged companies to provide training and development opportunities, equipping the youth with the necessary industry-relevant skills.

Diri said the industrial park in Emeyal 1 is a key initiative that would engage a significant number of youths in various capacities once it is operational.

He reminded youths and businesses operating within the industry that they could access specific facilities and funding opportunities provided by the Bank of Industry, which supports entrepreneurial activities.

The governor noted that continued effort and collaboration would be essential to realise the full benefits of these programmes.

The speakers at the event, including Daere Afonya-Akobo, Ziki Gbeme, and Kemepado, harped on the need for Niger Delta youths to be equipped with the right skills to excel in the oil and gas industry.

They emphasised that sustainable development is achievable in the Niger Delta region if the youths are patriotic and diligent in their efforts to accelerate development.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Engr Felix Omatshola Ogbe, reiterated the determination of the board to sustain initiatives that would bolster opportunities in the oil and gas sector for Niger Delta youths.

Ogbe, who was represented by the Manager of Capacity Building, NCDMB, Mr Olugbenga Shega, explained that the NCDMB would not relent in its mandate, which involves developing human capabilities and material capacities in the Nigerian oil and gas industry and monitoring and enforcing compliance with the provisions of the Act.
