Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has assured Bayelsans that by the end of January 2026 the people would no longer experience power shortage. The governor stated this at the ongoing Mgbidi 2026 crusade held at the Lord’s Chosen International Secondary School in Mgbidi, Imo State. Diri, who graced the crusade yesterday with his entourage said going forward his people would have an independent power plant (IPP).
According to the governor, the people need light for everything they want to do. He added that the people are happy that they have good roads including dual carriage roads.
“Bayelsa is a state blessed with oil and gas, we have so much gas but yet, we are in darkness. The government procured eight gas turbines, six of them already installed, the remaining two to be installed.”
Diri stressed further that his administration is building a new city called new Yenagoa with dual roads in that place. And that the state government is building a new stadium of 30,000 capacity, adding that when you do the things that people want God is with you. And no matter the opposition the power that you have is much greater than the power that is in them. The governor also used the occasion to express his sadness over the loss of his Deputy, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, adding that the state ended the year on a very sad note.
Diri said: “In 2025 I lost one of my cabinet members, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs. As if that was not enough, towards the end of the year, December 11 precisely, tragedy struck and I lost my second in command, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. So, we ended the year on a very bad note in my state.
“We are mourning and grieving. I have declared three days of mourning and ordered that the flag be flown at half mast. I keep receiving visitors all across Nigeria to console with us the passage of my deputy governor. May his soul rest in peace. And that almost stopped me from attending this year’s crusade at Mgbidi. But I told myself affliction shall not rise the second time. And the only way to ensure that again is to come to this powerful fellowship, and join my faith with you, and affliction will not rise the second time,” Diri added.
The governor, who expressed his gratitude to God for his presence at the crusade, encouraged participants to continue worshipping God, adding that when they come to the crusade and go back they will never remain the same again.
Appreciating the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, the governor said: “I want to continue to appreciate our General Overseer, Pastor Lazarus Muoka, for whom he is and what he is, when I lost my deputy governor, everywhere to talk to me. He could not rest until he was above me to get me to talk to me and to assure me that God is still with me.
Thank you so much for all the words you offered and the prayers you offered, God has strengthened me, strengthened us, and I believe most of the testimonies here, testimonies that have happened, and if you believe it will also happen here.”
The General Overseer, while appreciating the governor and his entourage, asked the congregation to pray for them.
