Digital Realty has expanded its presence in Nigeria with the launch of its third data center in Lagos, further strengthening the country’s position as a hub for digital transformation in Africa.

The new facility, known as LKK2, adds nearly 2 megawatts (MW) of IT capacity across 23,000 square feet of data hall space, providing the critical infrastructure needed to support Nigeria’s fast-growing digital economy.

Located in Lekki, LKK2 is directly linked to Digital Realty’s LKK1 data center, which houses the 2Africa subsea cable landing station. This connection gives Nigerian enterprises direct, low-latency access to one of the world’s largest subsea cable systems, spanning over 46 landing points in 33 countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.

Speaking at the launch, Ikechukwu Nnamani, Managing Director of Digital Realty Nigeria, described the facility as a milestone investment.

“LKK2 is a significant milestone in our journey to support digital transformation in Africa. Our continued investment in Nigeria and the broader African region reinforces our commitment to enabling seamless global interconnectivity and providing a future-ready infrastructure platform for local and global enterprises,” he said.

Built to Tier 3+ standards, the facility is designed with redundant power and cooling systems, six layers of access control, and 24/7 monitoring to guarantee security and uptime for critical operations.

Beyond infrastructure, Digital Realty’s investment has transformed the Lekki community. To make the project viable, the company constructed a 4.2 km access road, a 33kV power line, and a flood defense wall engineered to last 275 years. These improvements have spurred local development, creating jobs, attracting new investments including a 50MW independent power plant and accelerating Lekki’s rise as one of Lagos’s fastest-growing urban hubs.

With LKK2, Digital Realty becomes the first carrier-neutral operator to run two independent campuses in Lagos, a move that positions Nigeria as a key player in the global digital economy.
