The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed rumours of a planned terror attack on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), assuring residents that Abuja is secure and urging all to go about their lawful activities without fear.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Onoja gave the assurance at a media briefing on ongoing military operations across the country. He said the FCT is fortified with robust security architectures and that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, alongside other security agencies, are prepared to tackle any threats.

Onoja acknowledged recent terrorist attacks in neighbouring states Kogi and Niger, but assured that the military and sister agencies would not allow terrorists to penetrate Abuja, urging residents to maintain normal daily routines.

“Abuja and its environs are safe and secure. The military, in collaboration with other agencies, is on top of the situation. There is no cause for alarm.”

He listed diverse security challenges facing Nigeria: terrorism and insurgency in the North East, banditry and kidnapping in the North West and North Central, separatist agitations in the South East, piracy in the South South, and oil theft in the Niger Delta, confirming the armed forces’ resolve to confront these threats vigorously.

Onoja said troops are engaging in clearance operations, targeted air and maritime interdictions, and intelligence-driven raids nationwide, resulting in many criminal elements being neutralised or apprehended, hostages rescued, and enclaves dismantled. For November, dozens of terrorists and bandits were arrested or neutralised, over 69 (with their families) surrendered, 318 kidnapped victims rescued, and significant quantities of stolen crude oil recovered. Sixteen illegal refining sites were deactivated.

In operation highlights 28 Nov – 4 Dec 2025:

In the North East, OPERATION HADIN KAI troops denied Boko Haram and ISWAP freedom of action, neutralised terrorists, arrested informants, and intercepted logistics.
In the North West (OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA), troops neutralised many terrorists, rescued kidnapping victims, and secured regions across Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, and Kebbi States.

In the North Central (OPERATION ENDURING PEACE, OPERATION WHIRL STROKE), troops conducted offensive and rescue operations in Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba, arresting criminals and rescuing kidnap victims.
In the South South (OPERATION DELTA SAFE), oil theft worth over ₦12m was foiled.

In the South East (OPERATION UDO KA), aggressive operations in Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, and Cross River neutralised terrorists, freed kidnap victims, and recovered arms and vehicles.

Onoja praised the courage and professionalism of AFN personnel, the support of the Nigeria Police and other agencies, and the public’s role in providing actionable information. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to the law and called for ongoing public cooperation to eradicate insurgency.
