The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has commended the accreditation of 20 cutting-edge courses, including medical programmes, at the Federal University of Science and Technology (FUST), Kabo, Kano State, and urged management to uphold the highest standards of academic excellence.

Barau stated this in Abuja, when the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Governing Council, Chief (Mrs.) Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, led council members on a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly.

Laoye-Tomori, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, informed the Deputy Senate President that ahead of its maiden academic session, the institution had secured accreditation for 20 courses.

She described it as a landmark achievement, and noted that the university is now on solid ground to commence full academic activities.

She also commebded Barau for his instrumental role in establishing the institution and facilitating its conversion from a polytechnic to a full-fledged university.

“Senator Barau started this journey in 2016 when he sponsored the bill for the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Kabo. He had a clear vision for the future of Nigerian youth, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

“After successfully establishing the polytechnic, he again facilitated its upgrade to a university in 2025.

“Today, we have 20 outstanding courses accredited, including medical programmes. On behalf of the Governing Council, management, staff, and students, we sincerely appreciate his tremendous contributions.”

In response, Barau congratulated the council and management for achieving the feat within a short period, urging them to maintain the momentum.

He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, for signing the bill that converted the polytechnic into a university.

“I am delighted with the remarkable progress recorded by FUST Kabo. I remain committed to supporting the institution because our greatest national asset is our youth. We must ensure they have access to quality education to drive national development,’ Senator Barau said.
