DEPOWA trains 20 barracks youths on skills, distributes starter kits

The Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), haa concluded two weeks intensive training on skills acquisition for 20 barracks youths.

The youths drawn from the army and police barracks were trained in barbing, make-up, auto gele and production of various types of liquid soap, cosmetics, germicides and other household products.

They were also empowered with various starter pack to kick-start their businesses.

In her address at the graduation ceremony, DEPOWA President, Mrs Oghogho Musa, who is also the wife of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Christopher Musa, said the training was part of her drive to equip the Armed Forces and Police barrack youths with employment opportunities and career prospects bequeathing to them beneficial skills to make them resourceful and independent.

Besides, she said nations are embracing skills acquisition and vocational training to complement government efforts in providing jobs for the teeming unemployed.

“It is pertinent to state that these particular trainees, graduating today from the DEPOWA Skills Acquisition Centre are the first set of graduates that will be graduating under my watch as the President of DEPOWA.

“These skills acquisition programmes and other humanitarian and social intervention programmes being initiated by DEPOWA are geared towards aligning with the non-kinetics campaigns of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

As we are all aware kinetic and non-kinetic campaigns are part and parcel of military strategies used to win the war against terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminalities bedeviling our nation Nigeria,” Mrs Musa said.

While congratulating them, she charged them to put to practice the skills they have acquired to become self-reliant, industrious and above all employers of labour.
