Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has assured corps members posted to the state that their safety and welfare remain top priorities.
The governor gave the assurance at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream I NYSC orientation course at Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
Representing the governor at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. Harry ThankGod Trakiriowei, commended the corps members for demonstrating commendable discipline, resilience and commitment within the three weeks of preparation through physical drills and intellectual engagements.
He said: “Over the past three weeks, you have demonstrated commendable discipline, resilience, and commitment. Through physical drills, intellectual engagements, and structured activities, you have been strengthened in character and prepared for effective national service.
“The perseverance, teamwork, and sense of responsibility you have displayed will serve you well throughout your service year and beyond.”
He noted that the orientation programme is not merely preparatory, but a foundation for national integration, leadership development and civic responsibility.
He added that the NYSC orientation course has exposed corps members to critical issues of security awareness, public service, community development, leadership and the rich cultural heritage of Delta State.
He said the experiences gained during the orientation are designed to equip corps members to make meaningful contributions wherever they are deployed.

In his welcome address, the state coordinator, Mr John Kwaghe, also commended the corps members for the discipline, resilience and maturity displayed throughout the orientation exercise.
He said their conduct has reflected the finest ideals of the NYSC scheme; their positive attitude, cooperation and commitment to learning have been a source of pride to all and a clear indication of their readiness to serve the nation with integrity and loyalty.
He said: “Over the past three weeks, you have not only acquired knowledge but have equally imbibed enduring values through lectures and engagements on security consciousness, nation building, national integration, cultural tolerance, teaching methodology, financial literacy, and leadership development.”
He urged corps members to identify pressing needs, collaborate with community stakeholders and implement projects that will create sustainable impact, and also ensure they leave their host communities better than they met them in their primary assignments.
He thanked the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for his unwavering support and the enabling environment provided for the effective operation of the scheme in the state.
He, however, appealed to the state governor for assistance in furnishing the newly constructed 720-bed-capacity male hostel with double bunk beds and mattresses, to ensure comfortable accommodation for the increasing corps population and further enhance the success of the orientation course.
Other needs he listed include a new generator to complement the failing old existing one, which at present cannot carry the whole camp, and an additional borehole to provide a sustained water supply in the camp.
