Delta Investment Club launched in Asaba

Delta State

A club aimed at mobilising Delta State indigenes and other investors to take advantage of investment opportunities in the state has been launched in Asaba.

President of the Delta Investment Club, Mr. Omas Robinson, said the initiative was designed to financially empower Deltans at home and in the Diaspora by pooling resources for investments in identified profitable ventures in Delta State and elsewhere.

Robinson, Deltan resident in the United Kingdom, spoke at the launch of the club at the weekend.

In a statement by the club’s Director of Publicity, Mr. Pius Mordi, Robinson said the initiative was also intended to complement efforts by the Delta State Government to attract investments into the state.

He said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has demonstrated his passion for developing the state by organising a well-attended Delta State Investment and Economic Summit, instituting a $100 million de-risk fund for investors and personally attending all the sessions of the summit with his Executive Council, chairmen of local government areas, other political appointees and citizens from across the state.

“It is, therefore, time for Deltans to take advantage of these investment opportunities as a team, put resources together through this club and harness the opportunities available in agriculture, oil and gas, blue economy, solid minerals and other sectors in Delta State.”

Robinson said 1,500 Deltans had been earmarked to participate as shareholders in the club’s first phase of investments at no cost.

According to him, another 1,500 beneficiaries would be admitted as shareholders after the first batch had been successfully empowered.

He added that private investors from other parts of Nigeria, the Diaspora and elsewhere could also participate in the club by providing capital, expertise or professional competence.

Robinson said the club would partner with banks, insurance companies and other organisations with the requisite expertise to support its investment activities.

He added that the club would hold an Annual General Meeting every year as part of measures to ensure transparency, accountability and proper management of investors’ funds.
