… Omo-Agege heads to Supreme Court

From Paul Osuyi, Asaba

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has hailed the Court of Appeal judgment which affirmed the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the March 18 election.

The PDP in a statement by the state publicity secretary, Ifeanyi Osuoza, said the judgment was an unequivocally affirmation that the governor won the election overwhelmingly.

Osuoza re-echoed the PDP’s call on the governor’s opponents to join hands with Oborevwori in advancing the state.

The Court of Appeal, Lagos on Friday, in a unanimous judgment, affirmed the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the PDP.

The appellate court dismissed three separate appeals brought Ovie Omo-Agege of All Progressive Congress (APC), Ken Pela of Labour Party and Kenneth Gbagi of Social Democratic Party (SDP) for lack of merit.

Osuoza in the statement, applauded the judiciary, and stressed the need for the petitioners to join force with the governor.

“While we recognize the fact that our petitioners have the freedom of choice to pursue their legal convictions to whatever conclusion they may have envisioned, we still wish, with the best intentions, to offer our olive branch and hand of fellowship by urging them to reconsider any further challenge, after this Appeal Court verdict, to avoid frittering extra resources in these very hard times,” he stated.

But reacting to the judgement, APC’s Ovie Omo-Agege said he is convinced that the panel of Appeal Court justices
“clearly misapprehended the reformed electoral jurisprudence that now prevails to deepen democracy in the country.”

Omo-Agege in a statement by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, insisted that justice was yet to be served as far as the election was concerned.

“We will proceed to the Supreme Court. The issues at stake touch on the future and wellbeing of the people who voted for a New Delta. We have a duty to respect them by defending their faith in us with every sense of diligence and responsibility. We don’t waver on what is right.

“I am confident that the revered justices of the Supreme Court will examine the areas overlooked at the Appeal Court and give justice to our people,” he said.
