Esri, the global leader in location intelligence, announced the award to the Defence Space Administration at the annual Esri User Conference (Esri UC), on July 12, 2021, in a completely virtual event. Selected from over 300,000 eligible candidates, Defence Space Administration was selected for its innovative use of mapping and analytics technology, as well as leadership in the field of defence security.
The SAG Awards are intended to demonstrate an appreciation for organizations using GIS to understand complex data and resolve challenges around the world. The users honored with awards are demonstrating all the ground-breaking possibilities of GIS software.

Sambus Geospatial Nigeria Limited presented the award on behalf of Esri on November 2, 2021, in a short ceremony at the Defence Space Administration Headquarters in LUGBE, Abuja.
In a statement made by the Defence Chief of Defence Space Administration (DSA), Rear Admiral Williams Kayoda, during the award presentation mentioned that the administration acknowledges the values provided by Sambus Geospatial Nigeria Limited as the representatives of Esri in Nigeria.
The Defence Space Administration (DSA) was established to facilitate and implement the Defence and Security aspect of the National Space Policy, develop, and operate military space technologies among others. The Defence Space Administration acknowledged that ‘the use of ArcGIS has given DSA broad capabilities in imagery analysis, defence mapping, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, training, terrain analysis, visualization, and mapping. These products have continuously improved the planning and operation of the military in the country’
The Defence Space Administration is the first organization in Nigeria to be honored with the ESRI SAG award.
