From Obinna Odogwu, Awka
Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 8, 2025 gubernatorial poll in Anambra State, Nicholas Ukachukwu, has told members of the party who returned after defecting to other political parties not to expect special treatments.
Ukachukwu, at a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Awka, the state capital, said that he was not happy with the level of indiscipline in the APC and that he was all out to sanitise it.
“Part of the reason why this party is not moving forward is that we patronise mediocrities. We patronise people who want to destroy the party”, he lamented.
“That’s the major problem we have. And we have to deal with it decisively. The reason why you have law and order is that when somebody breaks the rule, you punish him for it.
“Another person will learn from it and not break another one. If you don’t punish one for breaking the law, the other one will carry the law along with him.”
Making reference to what happened during the last governorship election, Ukachukwu made it clear that those who dumped the party and worked against him at the poll should not expect a warm handshake from him.

“The person is welcome back. But once he returns, he must queue in the line. He must start afresh. Overtaking is allowed. Some other persons have taken their positions”, he stated.
“The bible says that if your brother slaps you on one cheek, you should turn the other one for him. I agree. But it didn’t say if someone stabs you in the heart you should give him your liver. Is it in the bible?”
The Anambra APC leader made it very clear that the party, under his watch, cannot continue to condone or support impunity, insisting that anyone who had undermined the party and left must start the queue upon return.
“You can’t come back and then displace those who are acting to make sure the party is working. That is the resolution we passed. It will serve as a deterrent to those who may want to do it tomorrow.
“Under my leadership of this party, I will not want anybody to be short-changed or treated unfairly. Everybody is important. One vote is important. What I can do may not be what the other person can do.
“There are different strengths from different places. On that note, everybody will be accorded due respect to make sure that they feel at home in the party in the state. We are building it, but it’s not yet strong”, he stated.
