DeafCAN holds National Convention in Makurdi August

About 2, 000 participants are expected in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, for the 7th annual of the convention of the Deaf Christian Association of Nigeria (DeafCAN) scheduled to hold at the Mount Saint Gabriel’s Secondary School, Makurdi.

National President of the DeafCAN, Rev. Uche Promise, who disclosed this in a statement, revealed that the theme of the convention which holds from August 1-8 this year would be “Looking unto Jesus.”

Rev. Promise, who said that the convention aimed to further spread the gospel of Christ to the deaf Christians in the country, to sensitise and educate them on job opportunities and self employment options available to the deaf, also said it would enable them live more godly lives with unshakeable faith in the Lord and contribute to the growth of the Nigerian economy.

The DeafCAN President maintained that they were working in harmony with the CAN leadership in Benue state, noting that the CAN Chairman in the state, Rev. Akpen Leva had been supportive in all they were doing even in the organization of the convention.

According to the President, the association has carried out an independent search and has come out with the names of those they would honour during the convention for their contribution to the spread of evangelism.

The statement named those to be honoured during the convention to include Governor Samuel Ortom, Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ortom, the National President of  CAN, Rev. Ayokunle, the General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Musa Asake and Senators David Mark, George Akume and Barnabas Gemade.

Others to get the DeafCAN award are Benue State CAN Chairman, Rev. Akpen Leva, his immediate predecessor,  Archbishop Yimam Orkwar, Rev Fr John Terence Ikponko, Wantaregh Paul Unongo, Rev. Tor Ujah Dr. Mike Atser and Rev. Hinga.
